5 Critical Tips for 2021 About Michigan Car Accident Statistics

5 Critical Tips for 2021 About Michigan Car Accident StatisticsMichigan car accident statistics always show the true side of what’s really going on in our state roads and highways. Common causes of Michigan car accidents include drunk driving, animal-related accidents, fatal accidents, pedestrian accidents, hit and run, as well as many more. In this article, we will discuss these issues. Car accidents in Michigan account for a large number of injuries as well as fatalities due to their nature of being random of causation.

Injuries, Deaths, and Accidents gradually increasing in Michigan

The Michigan state police have a Crash reporting Unit that outlines many statistics on accidents in our state. According to this specialized unit, there were 314,377 traffic crashes during the 2019 year of our state. This is a large increase from the previous year and also is related to 74,963 recorded injuries and 985 deaths. The number of injuries has almost 10x since 2018.

A large number of those killed in auto accidents did not wear seat belts

Seat belts were invented in 1959 and are critical in ensuring safety for drivers as well as passengers. They are able to reduce the risk of critical injury and death by a large statistical percentage. Before this time most car accidents were between old heavy steel built automobiles that often left people in critical condition with little hope for safety. Bench seats and low-quality safety features left people in difficult positions.

Accidents often happen for random reasons out of our control. However, if one simply follows the law and utilizes seat belts as well as other safety features, you can easily avoid critical injury. Seat belt laws in Michigan can be read about more here.

A large percentage of Car Crashes involved Drunk driving

Drunk driving is a common cause of auto accidents and is rampant nationwide regardless of the region. Drinking and driving is not a new issue, the first-ever recorded real drunk driving accident was dated 1897 in London. The first drunk driving laws were implemented in New York.

Stats

  1. Most fatal accidents happened on a Saturday
  2. 70% of fatal accidents happened on dry roads
  3. Most fatal accidents occurred between 3-4 pm
  4. 15% of fatal crashes were involved with drivers 65+ in age
  5. Around 5% of accidents involved trucks and other forms of large transport
  6. Animal Accidents also were a part of accidents.

Deer related accidents in Michigan

Michigan has a very diverse living area, including heavy rural as well as urban and suburban areas. This means that wildlife is a heavy factor to include in accidents.

Critical 2021 steps should be listened to when a deer accident seems unavoidable:

  1. Swerving can make it worse
  2. Apply brakes firmly
  3. Keep the steering wheel under control
  4. Stay in your lane
  5. Coming under a controlled stop is essential
